MY THIRD VENTURE with Mike Lanza (see also the recently sold Click TV) is less venture and more manifesto. At least for the moment. But given Mike's track record, I wouldn't be surprised to see it turn back into a venture...as in venture capital. Meanwhile, it has manifested itself as something of an adventure in his front yard.
...
Even though I know Playborhood is a manifesto on the art of raising kids with less focus on the raising and more focus on the kids, it is artfully disguised as a new kind of old neighborhood hangout. The design of the hangout in Mike's front yard in Menlo Park is all his doing (although I believe he worked with a landscape architect too). MUDHAUS designed the brand, the street signs and the blog where Mike has been working out his ideas (manifesto) among a community of mostly like-minded parents for the past 18 months.
...
His (real) neighbors have responded warmly to the new attraction and the SF Chroicle recently did a big Sunday paper article about it. See what I mean about this becoming a venture.
